If you didn’t get to the gym today, there’s still a chance to burn some extra calories in bed – not by sleeping, but by having sex!  Sex increases your heart rate and thus increases blood flow to the skin, which gives you that feeling of total body warmth similar to exercise. So if you feel ‘hot and bothered’ before and during sex, it’s not in your imagination!

As I mentioned in a recent interview for SheKnows.com:  https://www.sheknows.com/love-and-sex/articles/949463/brr-how-to-use-sex-to-warm-you-up

“Intercourse for 30 minutes burns approximately 85 calories or more depending on position, duration and intensity. For example, when you’re on top doing most of the work, you will burn more calories. The more intense the sex, the more calories burned.”

Think of it this way, if you’re having sex two to three times a week, that’s in the neighborhood of 9,000 to 13,000 calories a year (FYI, you need to burn 3500 calories to lose a pound of fat). So, sex is definitely good for your diet.

Plus, you don’t have to have intercourse to burn calories. Oral sex burns calories especially if you incorporate yoga (e.g. planks or push-ups), while giving a hand job can burn up to 100 calories an hour depending on vigor and position.  In addition, kissing burns approximately two to six calories per minute, and it’s higher if petting is involved. As you can see, engaging in long make-out sessions with your partner is not only good for your relationship; it is also good for your waistline!

Of course, one of the secrets to having good sex is having a positive body image. As I discussed in my book, if you want to feel sexy, love your body. A healthy diet and regular exercise are the keys to helping you feel like a red-hot mamma.
