It’s no secret that stress is bad for you—but did you know it can put a major damper on your libido? The mind-body connection is powerful, so when our minds are preoccupied with pressures such as financial stress, job stress, or having a packed schedule, our bodies respond by shutting down the sex drive.

The good news? Letting go of stress and getting into a sexy mindset is easy. Through some simple techniques you can get your mind to relaaaaax…and deep relaxation can be the first step in the chain reaction that leads to sexual arousal.

One of the techniques to achieve deep relaxation and heighten your libido is through breath control, as I recently noted at MORE.com https://www.more.com/anti-aging-health-books.

“Great sex—which research shows may increase longevity—can be as natural as, well, breathing. That’s because breath is the ultimate enhancer of sexual pleasure. Rapid breathing can increase arousal; slow, deep breathing can keep you on the edge of sexual pleasure; long, slow exhalations can boost your sexy self-confidence.”

Engaging in deep breathing together with your partner has the added benefit of fostering feelings of closeness, and is one of the most basic Tantric techniques.

As I mention in V is for Vagina, meditation is another technique to reduce stress. With meditation you find your emotional center, and free your mind from the buzzing worries of the day to day. Not only does meditation enhance your sex drive, but it also brings a whole slew of health benefits for pain management, lowering blood pressure, boosting the immune system, and quelling the symptoms of PMS.

The last technique will probably not surprise you—you’d have to be living a cave to not have heard about the health benefits of yoga. But you may not have realized that a bonus side effect of yoga is an improved sex drive! The deep relaxation you achieve with yoga sends the blood flowing to the genitals, which can easily lead to sexual arousal.

Now that you have these simple methods at your fingertips, you can kick the stress and get your libido exactly where you want it to be.
